Politics and the English Language (1946)
- gralx 5y agoI think back to this essay every year and have done so for years. Worth re-reading. I learned the King James Ecclesiastes verse because of it.

- HeckFeck 5y agoMy apologies, I had no idea this essay was such an annual event. The essay entered my head today and I thought it would fulfil other curious minds. But as I see, it has already done that. I'll endeavour to find something more original the next time!
- kgwxd 5y agoI don't think the [dupe] flag was justified. This is the first time I'm seeing it and there aren't a lot of comments on most of those.
- dang 5y agohttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27067007 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27067007 was less than 6 months ago. 60 points and 20 comments counts as significant attention, so this is just standard moderation: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html The other links are there in case people are curious to read past threads - they don't imply anything about dupiness. Significant attention within the last year (or so) is the criterion.
- dang 5y agoNo worries! It's just an application of the one-year rule (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html)
