The real interesting bits...
"Jenny Sundén insists that this “sex in public, as it were, can be made safe.” She proposes detaching the idea of intimacy from privacy altogether..."
"...what would happen if, “rather than pushing for a privacy that is no privacy—a security that fosters insecurity . . . we fought for the right to be exposed—to take risks and to be in public—and not be attacked?” Perhaps, with everyone’s data always on the brink of going public, a new front in the long fight of LGBTQ2+ people for the right to safe private sex outside the home is the demand for freedom from harm if intimacies are exposed."
I'm all in support of this attitude. I don't think ending privacy is a true solution to the problem of privacy, but it can help reduce the size of the problem.
- spywaregorilla 5y agoMaybe this is just me but I don't want sex in public so that I don't need to see others fucking; rather than shame of doing it myself.
- standardUser 5y agoThey don't mean at your local park. They mean things like sexting, amateur porn, sex parties, and other activities that are already public/semi-public but come with extreme stigma that prevent many people from participating who otherwise want to.
- spywaregorilla 5y agoAre you sure? They explicitly say outside the home. Someone else's home doesn't feel like it crosses that boundary for me.
