What Broke the New York Times?
- 1cvmask 5y agoI actually think the NY Times is not broke at all and is run in a profit maximizing rational manner as a corporate business by catering it's subject matter to its thriving subscriber business and advertising business. Keeping your subscribers happy with stories they want to hear is the right approach. Why let the truth get in the way of corporate profits.
- eli_gottlieb 5y agoWhether it's broke is an empirical question. How are their costs and revenues doing in the Biden era?
- 1cvmask 5y agoThey are a subscription business primarily now and they make it almost impossible to cancel. While they write about dark patterns employed by evil tech companies they employ worse methods themselves. https://www.nirandfar.com/cancel-new-york-times/ https://www.nirandfar.com/cancel-new-york-times/
- eli_gottlieb 5y agoThat reminded me to cancel my subscription. I might as well admit what city I live in and subscribe to the local paper instead.
- greenail 5y ago"If you want to know what makes America’s educated liberal elites emotional, you only have to open the Times. Judging by the coverage of recent years, two things make them more emotional than anything else: Trump and racism." I'm somewhat amazed that every time I turn on CNN or MSNBC they are talking about 1/6.
- coldtea 5y ago>If you want to know what makes America’s educated liberal elites emotional, you only have to open the Times. Judging by the coverage of recent years, two things make them more emotional than anything else: Trump and racism. Basically it's same as it ever was for the elites: classism. So, any kind of story that makes them feel superior to lesser classes (especially white trash and the majority of fly-over state people is good. No PoC though, because that they're the sole proprietors of tolerance and pretending to champion -from afar- for poor PoC is part of the charade. (Of course, like with any other poor people, they couldn't tolerate them for a second if they were to stand in their actual company, and have no qualms about policies advocating bombing them all around the globe).
- bell-cot 5y agoMight anyone happen to know if the New York Times ran a "What Broke The Spectator?" article recently? Because this sounds rather like a name-calling contest between Mr. Pot and Mr. Kettle.
- WarOnPrivacy 5y agoSpectator piece is by author of titles like this: "Bad News: How Woke Media is Undermining Democracy"
- greenail 5y agoI don't see how that title is problematic for this article. Many would agree with the idea that "woke media" is undermining democracy but how is that relevant?
- WarOnPrivacy 5y ago"woke media" is heavily favored talking point for a particular ideological group. There's a good chance that group overlaps with the "many" you are referring to.
- greenail 5y agoThe point of the article is that ideology has broken the Times. This is problematic for "the paper of record" particularly when what we need is more honest journalism not more ideology.
- WarOnPrivacy 5y agoThere is a very real probability that that viewpoint is itself shaped by ideology.
- jacquesm 5y agoI think you meant to write certainty.
