- slowmotiony 5y agoIf it was 15 years ago it probably would have been named "Codr.io", so there is progress
- the_only_law 5y agoCan't tell if this is a joke or not.

- ModernMech 5y agoSay Codecademy and Code Academy out loud. Also in general, weird little made up words are more defensible in terms of trademarks.
- consumer451 5y agoAnd better for SEO as well, is it not?
- ModernMech 5y agoYeah and urls for that matter, but actually I just checked and codecademy owns codeAcademy.com
- bryanrasmussen 5y agoprobably purchased after they started making money.
- CapitalistCartr 5y agoSo they can copyright their name.
- fabianhjr 5y agoNames are not copyrightable; do you mean trademark?
- ModernMech 5y ago*Trademark. Copyright protects creative works.
- bogwog 5y agoYou own the rights to copy something you made, you don't copyright something you made.
- jrowley 5y agoAmigo means friend in Spanish. No more of a made up word than academy.
- onion2k 5y agoCodecademy was filed as a trademark on September 6, 2012. When they did that there were some pre-existing similar names around (eg CA Code Academy filed on September 7, 2011). It's probably the case that they couldn't get a "Code Academy" based .com domain or something too. Plus portmanteau names for startups were trendy back then.
- neur4lnet 5y agoI had never realised that codecademy wasn't codeacadamy. Oops.
- ThaJay 5y agoI always have issues spelling it
