Quote from article:
Mr Assange, 50, is wanted in the US on allegations of a conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defence information following WikiLeaks' publication of hundreds of thousands of leaked documents relating to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
"conspiracy to obtain" = The US does not currently have any meaningful evidence this happened.
Which leaves: Mr Assange, 50, is wanted in the US on allegations of [WikiLeaks] disclos[ing] national defense[sp] information
In other words: Practicing journalism that was in the worlds public interest.
To be ultra clear, "conspiracy to obtain" means Assange had intent, and initiated intent to get those documents. In other words, not a leak at all, but some action Assange took himself to publish. That's the part the US has no evidence of.
Very clearly the documents were leaked. But, that happening is not "conspiracy to obtain"
