Building a proper rest API is pretty hard. I think I speak for many developers when I say that I limit myself to the most important core statements. For most applications, a simple API + HTTP + sensible url scheme is completely sufficient. Especially when the API doesn't need to be publicly consumable. The author himself says that as a good designer you should select a style that matches the needs of a particular problem being solved. Things like URL Autodiscovery are definitely desirable from an idealistic or academic point of view. However, I have never seriously needed such features.

Yeah I'm so tired of this bs from developers who treat their jobs as an idealistic academic exercise instead of doing what makes sense for the organisation. They don't work for Roy Fielding for christ's sake, so why are they spending so much time and effort supporting his research?
