Poll: How many tabs do you have open now?
I always end up having anywhere between 10 - 25 tabs open at any time. I'm not sure if it's that I need to use Instapaper or get into bookmarking more but i'm interested in if anyone else is in a similar situation.
- brackin 15y agoIt's a mix of hating Delicious and Bookmarking not fitting with how I get things done. I feel like if I want to read something later I have to leave it open or I never will. When I bookmark or instapaper anything I never get back to reading it.
- brackin 15y agoI just found some decent Delicious Desktop apps, seems like this will help as it's much more integrated with my workflow (should be) but still not perfect.
- zoowar 15y agoThis problem is already solved. Consider http://readitlaterlist.com/ http://readitlaterlist.com/ or https://www.instapaper.com/ https://www.instapaper.com/
- brackin 15y agoIt's not only a problem for reading, a lot of my tabs are not articles. Some are but some are useful projects, startups or things I may need which I want to look at later, but have no way to save at the moment.
- hammock 15y agoThe worst part is when Firefox gets to 500mb+ and I want to restart it to free up some memory. I used to save all the open URLs in a notepad file then reopen them, but lately I've just been killing the process then letting FF recover them itself... this is probably bad practice.
- brackin 15y agoYes, i've got a Macbook Pro. Which i'd say is pretty fast. Having all these URLs makes chrome slow down until when typing I have to wait for it to catch up.
- lea 15y agoAround 50, But the count can easily go up to 100+ with the help of firefox extensions like Tree Style Tabs and multiple browser windows.
- relix 15y agoOn my desktop, 289, spread around 15 windows (Chrome takes up about 3GB of RAM) On my laptop, 120, spread around 3 windows (Chrome takes up about 1.5GB of RAM, (Mac OS X)performance gets really bad after 10 hours of running, and I usually restart Chrome a couple of times during the day because of this) I use instapaper to "save and remove" articles from my tabs, so none of these are articles. It's a real problem. I have regular "cleaning" sessions where I check every tab and determine its faith. But, much like trying to get inbox zero, this almost never completely works and soon it's ballooning again.
- brackin 15y agoI feel the same, this morning I had like 60 within a few windows and already made my Macbook Pro become very slow. Especially because a few have flash video loaded or flash and HTML5 elements.
- relix 15y agoIt's really pretty abysmal. I, too, have an MBP. There's 2GB free RAM left, and browsing is basically all I do, yet it feels continually sluggish. Makes you think you're using a netbook ;-)
