It really depends on the college attended. I transferred to Berkeley and majored in Philosophy, with the intent of going to law school after. I was interested in tech stuff and got a campus job doing linux administration which led me to my current career. Even though I didn't enjoy the major _that_ much, attending a top ranked school was absolutely worth it for both the connections and opportunities. Transferring made it absolutely worth, would most likely not be the case if I had to take out lots of loans.
