If anyone wants to read a really good book that puts the War On Drugs and addiction in perspective, I highly recommend Chasing The Scream by Johann Hari. Very well written, well-referenced and involves interviews with all sorts of people - drug users, prisoners, an ex-cop, ex-cartel members, psychologists. His other book on depression, Lost Connections, is similarly great and insightful.
