Conservatives want a place on the internet.

- hunterb123 5y agoVery offensive comment. Insulting and generalizing people and ideology you don't understand. I am conservative, many issues I find liberals think they have the moral high ground on it's quite the opposite. Note I use these terms loosely and there is a spectrum of political ideologies that differ between people, even between issues.
- exogeny 5y agoI would argue that the person who wrote that comment understood it better than anyone on this thread.
- hunterb123 5y agoThen argue it. Why?
- exogeny 5y agoI don't believe for a second that you're arguing in good faith, given the parade of goalpost-moving with attendant downvotes you rained into the other post on this topic. But he understood it, literally, because he ran a community that embodied it. To my knowledge, neither me nor you can say that, so again, literally speaking he has a lot more experience in understanding the dynamics of this culture. You feel like he's painting conservatives with an unfair brush. OK. Take that up with him.
- hunterb123 5y agoFirst, I just wanted you to expand, I am arguing in good faith. Now I'm interested what you mean by "parade of goalpost-moving" though. My comments in this thread are positive and I don't think I said anything controversial other than defending a sweeping generalization. Second, he doesn't say anything of substance to backup that specific statement. Would you like to point it out? We are not communicating with him, his statement from the article was quoted at me and I responded to what I thought of it.
- micromacrofoot 5y agoYou called them conservatives, not me. I posted an excerpt from the linked post. That's what a Ruqqus admin said about the people on his site. I don't think they're conservatives at all, they're just very sad angry people.
- hunterb123 5y agoI thought you were quoting because you agreed with it, you didn't explain why. It's an offensive statement, no matter who said it, it's a sweeping generalization. There are plenty of intelligent conservatives, and either way, they want a community.
- micromacrofoot 5y agoSure but these aren't communities of conservatives, these are communities of bigots... they're not debating fiscal responsibility, they're self-proclaimed nazis They're not getting kicked off of twitter and facebook for being conservative, they're getting kicked off for being extremely racist
- hunterb123 5y agoThere are many who got kicked off Twitter/FB for purely political statements like sharing the Wuhan lab leak theory or Hunter Biden's laptop at the wrong time. Or maybe just a #LetsGoBrandon. Just like there are many bad and good liberals on Twitter, there can be many bad and good conservatives on other platforms. That doesn't mean there isn't unjust censorship as well. Crying racism or misinformation won't cover it up for long.
- micromacrofoot 5y agoAgain, read OPs post. These "conservatives" are attempting to co-exist on sites that end up predominantly featuring nazis. The first suggestion you saw when signing up for the site was "hitlerwasright" closely followed by racist slurs. If conservatives want to stop being lumped together with nazis and racists they need to draw a line in the sand. You can't co-exist on the same site without being equated with them. This is why reddit has also cracked down on incels, creepshots, thedonald, and other questionable subs. This is why chan sites are considered toxic cesspools. If conservatives can't exist without distinguishing themselves from people who support racial genocide then they're going to fade into irrelevancy. This is true of any ideology... for example there's a fair amount of infighting amongst feminists when trans women are excluded. There's a feeling that trans-exclusionary feminism defies the basic tenets of feminism and puts the entire movement at risk... conservatives should be more outspoken about the nazis and racists that claim their ideology is one in the same.
