Dave Chappelle willing to meet with Netflix employees
- mountainriver 5y agoAfter reading all the endless headlines on what happened I finally watched the special last night. First off it was really funny, some of Dave’s best work since he’s come back. Also I found it emotionally touching when he told the story of his transgendered friend that committed suicide. Can’t help but notice that was missing from the headlines. By the end of it I was really confused at why all the hysteria has taken place. As a bisexual man I found his gay jokes pretty funny. You can clearly tell he has a good heart and is just poking fun. I’ve come to the conclusion that Dave wanted to be canceled and cause hysteria all the while telling his touching story about his transgendered friend. I think he wanted to put the nonsense on display. I see it now as art around the topic of cancel culture.
- augustuspolius 5y agoI had a somewhat different experience. I found this special not particularly funny or insightful. His emotional stories felt flat. However, I absolutely do not find the hysteria around this special justified. He clearly expressed his intent and highlighted the silliness of protecting some groups or topics from being able to be joked about. Netflix protesters who physically assault and direct hate at Chapelle’s supporters are more alarming.

Having watched his series of specials. I see Dave as a powerful adult voice that stands on the side of trans people in living their best lives. I think a majority of the West has that viewpoint at this point. There's residual boomer prejudice, commentary and humor in poor taste, but people are free to let their freak flags fly, hallelujah. There's a definite trend such that in the coming decades, trans and nonbinary identity won't be a big deal. As it should be. People's private lives are private. As are their privates. To meet with him, they'd have to confront the reality that he did nothing wrong. That they're in the wrong for trying to crucify him. The tactic used is to now ignore him and attempt to create a different narrative where he's somehow being unreasonable for trying to speak at all.
