Sunday driving via Gopher and other protocols is also pretty cool. We're not locally up to speed yet, but there's a WIP project near where I live that's similar to HamWAN, in which there's a parallel wireless mesh network with its own http resources to surf at up to 300 Mbps (not that I've tried it, just heard about it). I understand that Oregon HamWAN just got an $88K grant to develop its range even further--so it's kind of mind-blowing to think that there are even more than several "internets" when you think in terms of independent networks that encourage Sunday drivers. http://hamwan.org/ http://hamwan.org/
