  You can set the touch bar to always show the "control strip" instead of keeping it minimized on the right side of the touch bar.

    This is a game changer, thank you! For anyone else looking to configure this:  > "System Preferences" > "Keyboard" > "Touch Bar shows" => "Expanded Control Strip"

    I was replying to the comment of a person that "never used the function keys" (in non-touchbar macs).
