We seem to live in the republic of 'Outrage-istan'
- roenxi 5y agoYeah maybe. There are two aspects to outrage culture: (1) New School - groups that previously couldn't get their outrage heard and are now using the internet to organise and amplify their voices. I'm thinking something like the Muslims getting angry about Mohammed cartoons. (2) Old School - the classic entrenched issues that gin up a silly outrage as a distraction to sneak through something politically they wanted to do anyway. It is becoming a lot harder for the old schoolers to fake a confident consensus since it is too easy to show them up, so the outrage from them is all a little more desperate than historical precedent would suggest.
