Unfortunately, American elections are rarely about policy. Nor are the actions of our current Congress. And there doesn't seem to be a trend towards substantive and rational discussion about the problems we face and possible solutions.
As long as we are in the grip of individuals and groups who have learned to use social media in order to gain and retain power, what "most Americans want" will be drowned out in a flood of disinformation, manipulation and distraction.
- uncoder0 5y ago'Individuals and groups' It's not that.. It's just Capital and it's always been Capital.
- tails4e 5y agoAgreed. The misuse of media (social and 'news') is the root of the rot. Its a shame in a first world country, thst so much of the population is so intentionally misinformed, and there seems to be no appetite to fix it.
- ChrisRR 5y agoIt's insane watching american politics as an outsider, as they treat their politics like sports teams. They just seem so intent on constantly screwing over the opposition, rather than trying to improve their country That and how clearly policies are determined by large corporations/donors, and then manipulate the population into thinking it's in their best interests.
