Plastic industry pollution to overtake coal in US by 2030, report says
- giantg2 5y agoI'm surprised pollution from plastics is not already higher. It looks like the article is only comparing greenhouse gas emissions. I would be interested in other chemicals emitted (like mercury from coal) as well as the physical substance itself (like microplastics). If plastics come from oil and it's non-renewable, then shouldn't we be investigating its replacement? Even the alternative plastics from corn and cassava involve the use of potential pollutants. If we're still pumping oil for roads and plastics, then what are we doing with the gas and diesel when electric vehicles take over? Or can these be turned into plastic too?
