Arguably this is Valve's fault because they insist on putting a ton of stuff in secure folders (under Program Files) instead of where they belong (in the user's home/data directories)
They've had a LONG time to fix this.
- garaetjjte 5y agoThat's just game fault that it saves data in game files instead of user directory.
- kevingadd 5y agoNo, Steam puts stuff like steam cloud in the programfiles dir as well. It's totally under their control where it goes.
- garaetjjte 5y agoSteam Cloud files location is also specified by game developer: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/cloud https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/cloud
- RealStickman_ 5y agoIsn't that just because the default library is in the steam install folder? (On windows)
- ryanlol 5y agoYeah, and Valve can’t be arsed to change it.
- zeusk 5y agoBecause that won't make them any money like their loot boxes. As for the matter, some teams here are just as incompetent so someone's probably going to have a fire lit under their arse to either fix the signing issue or publicly document why these APIs are now "protected"
- kevingadd 5y agoThey don't just put the games there, they put the steam cloud data there too, and I think screenshots etc.
- Shorel 5y agoAll the permissions blocked I just described were in "My Documents". What you mention happens with default installs, true. I just install all steam related in "C:\Steam", so I was convinced folder permissions would not affect me. This is something new. Apps should not require special permissions to use "My Documents".
