- skrebbel 5y agoSave you a right click: Edward Gibbon was an 18th century English historian who wrote a series of books called "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" . Parent suggests that said book was Asimov's inspiration for the fall of the Galactic Empire at the beginning of the Foundation series.
