Transporter accidents show all kind of weird things. A good and evil Kirk. Nelix and Tuvok merged into one person, Scotty in suspended animation by doing a transporter loop. By using a hair with dna on it, they can restructure a person who got dna damaged. In fact if the transporter still has a pattern they can create a body of that person and mind from before they beamed down and died. The real question is, what about Holodeck characters? Are they real?
