Why do so many of the comments here want to strip these people of their human agency? They make bad decisions, and those decisions have effects. It isn’t always some opaque “the system”. Sometimes you’ll have to see that these people are humans just like you are, and just like you are responsible for your decisions, so are they. Anything else, which aims to make them less than you, is a problem. Treat these people like human beings.
