BSDs are meant to be server OSes.
Haiku sounds really promising but needs like 100x developers and money to take off which I don't see happening.
Google's Fuchsia/Zircon is looking to replace the Linux kernel (already done for a number of devices) and hopefully userspace as well.

Oh, I don't think we're that far away from general viability. 10x the money would be more than enough, and even 2x development effort (without the money, even) would probably suffice. You can come be part of the difference ;)
- itvision 5y agoI'm not a programmer unfortunately and given the fact that my brain has recently been deteriorating fast I won't even try. Perhaps I'll soon turn into a vegetable for all I know :-(
