Bari Weiss: It's time for parallel independent institutions
- noduerme 5y agoI think one of the key takeaways from this was that any new institutions with a mission of protecting classical liberalism and free speech can't be effective if they exist in a right-wing bubble. The challenge for conservatives will be to accept the academics who they agree with about the importance of open debate, but disagree with about virtually everything else. I think the centrist-conservative longing for that kind of comity and reason is wishful thinking in an ecosystem dominated by extremists on both sides. So is the notion that being non-radical is currently countercultural. I wish them the best but I won't get my hopes up.
