Actually for Americans the rules are bit different in that Uncle Sam wants his cut even if they live overseas (over a certain amount IIRC) but for the rest of us it's purely residence based.
- lometogo 5y agoFrom the US IRS site: For tax year 2020, the maximum foreign earned income exclusion is the lesser of the foreign income earned or $107,600 per qualifying person. For tax year 2021, the maximum exclusion is $108,700 per person.
