I second Pop_OS. It's the first distro that "just works" for me. I installed it on my laptop(a lenovo legion with an nvidia GPU) about a month ago and I haven't had to make any system-level modifications to it. I downloaded it with NVidia drivers packaged in already and out of the box I could set display scaling to a cozy 125%. I love the window tiling, and being able to explicitly set floating windows too, which to me goes one step beyond Windows/MacOs default window management behavior. I can snap VS to the left half of the screen, a browser to the right, and set a floating window that I'm reading from(examples, code snippets, figma) on top that doesn't go away when I switch focus between VScode and the browser.
Previously I was using MacOS with an app called magnets for window snapping(something built into windows) but there still weren't any utilities that could consistently let me set floating windows ala iPadOS behavior.
