You know, Y Combi should have a command showing of this for all the tech whiners who cry about losing 25% of their salary, but keeping all their extremely generous benefits etc, while they get to work from their overpriced real estate somewhere nice.
I get it...they made different/better choices, but maybe we should be focusing on how to help others make better choices rather than constantly whining about minor losses brought about by the privilege you have to choose to work from a million dollar condo in Austin.
I get that the tax code encourages people to make those choices, but I think most people really don't have the education required to understand those critical issues. She has a college degree, but lately that really doesn't mean anything. Most schools don't teach people the things they really need to know. Most people in SV don't even seem to have a good grip on the business issues that will affect their particular start-up....Homejoy should still be operating, for example. A true $1T start-up dead before it could reach it's potential.
I didn't watch the show; I read the book and all throughout I was screaming in my head "just start a daycare." Childcare is a HUGE problem in this country. But if you can't see your way to it, it seems like an impossibility. Strategically, it is possible and cheaper than most people think, but she wouldn't have seen it and therefore she couldn't have followed through.
