Ask HN: What word/phrase in a job description makes you reject it immediately?
- decentralizeme 5y agoWhen the recruiter mixes up tools, technologies & domains/fields in one sentence, e.g. "Must be expert in Google Analytics, Machine Learning, Web Tracking with Analytics Tags Implementation" - A big red flag for me. Burn-out preprogrammed
- kenty 5y agoSomething akin to: "mandatory travelling/flexible work location." Not only for reasons of me having to travel but also for being a pointer to a non-remote friendly and probably outdated work culture.
- richliss 5y agoIf it's for a consultancy and is described as "Location: London, UK with some travel" what they mean is potentially "small village anywhere in the UK", if you have a family so you can travel back for weekends or if you're young and single, "Ashgabat, Turkmenistan or other exotic location where we need non-local boots on the ground" because that's what everyone above you was "apparently" prepared to do to get the wages they're on.
- miranaa 5y ago* Any description mentioning the words ”guru”, ”rockstar", "ninja" or "10x" * Any job ad that goes in-depth about what you will do and what the requirements are but mentions nothing about what's in it for you.
