People are angry that politicians are using the vaccine as a weapon - look at countries with high vaccination rates where the restrictions continue. People are fed up. By choosing to publicly advocate vaccines, he’s stepped right in to the middle of that fight.
I think the article is quite disgusting in that it basically accuses COVID skeptics of extremism, and all the talk of crosshairs etc together wink and nod at terrorism. Not to mention the implicit blaming of the health system staffing issues on COVID skeptics.
- emptysongglass 5y agoDenmark has very high vaccination rates and we've removed all masking and other restrictions. We still had an outcry from a group called the "Men in Black" that it was a government conspiracy to 5G mind control the populace. Meanwhile looking at Los Angeles, where restrictions continue everywhere and people are shamed into wearing masks even where they're not required (outside walking in the streets) by the new far left. My wife recently returned home to LA to visit her sister and was shocked by how deeply shame culture has set root.
- switch007 5y ago(Just to be clear, I did mean "look at countries... where the restrictions continue" not "look at countries..., where the restrictions continue") Well, Denmark's Health Minister did add that the Government “will not hesitate to act quickly” if the situation becomes worse once again", and then got on Twitter and brought up new variants, so the lifting came with a thinly veiled threat. So it wasn't all peachy. And you haven't removed all other restrictions. There are still travel restrictions (some lifted 25th Oct, but only OECD countries etc [0]), masks in airports and hospitals, strongly suggesting children be tested if in close contact with an infected child etc. Do you also have to quarantine if identified a close contact? [1] seems to suggest so. That's a pretty big one. Denmark seems to be following a similar plan to the UK. Make lots of noise about lifting some restrictions, but leave the law that can place you under effective house arrest. - emptysongglass 5y agoIn practice, (and I say this as a Dane living here) a Dane living in Denmark does not notice any remaining restrictions. We can take the bus, attend events, sit down for some fine dining, go to the movies, see some art, drink wildly, all without wearing a mask or doing anything differently than pre-COVID. It is suggested you quarantine if you are identified as a close contact, not required. And that's fine. You shouldn't come into work if you have a cold and I definitely don't want someone coming in to work if they think they were hit with COVID. Danish society is largely built around what is reasonable, equitable, and fair. > but leave the law that can place you under effective house arrest. This starts to make you sound unreasonable and that you are using the COVID restrictions as a veil for crusading against what you perceive as the makings of authoritarianism. That's silly and I wont get into an argument with you about that. Yes, we went into lockdown early, our government protected us, cared for us, ensured our wellbeing. And it shows in our infection and mortality rates. We came out singing. When J&J looked like its efficacy was going downhill, they offered us free Moderna boosters because they care. We were not mandated to do it, they just said, hey Danes, if you want a little extra help, we're here for you, come on down.
- switch007 5y ago> This starts to make you sound unreasonable nice ad hominem.
