Read up on working memory. A lot of people can't hold enough items in their head long enough to write a function. And that's if you don't believe in IQ, which is already very heavily correlated with success.

I am in the somewhat unique situation of being "smart enough", but far from the smartest person in the room, so I can struggle and am close enough to the "incompetent" line to see it clearly, and it's a scary place. On the other hand, I can do enough to understand how truly fast "hyper-intelligent" people think at work to understand the difference, and it's a stark difference.
