Tegmark's mathematical universe hypothesis is like Platonism taken to the extreme: only mathematical objects exist.
Standard "vanilla" Platonism says: there is an abstract world of pure forms (the mathematical side) and it is imperfectly projected [or other similar kinds of words] down to the reality we experience.
Tegmark asks: why distinguish the two?
- GoblinSlayer 5y agoThe gap between mathematics and physics is big, starting with the digital paradigm that dominates math, but also stuff like relativity and time don't properly exist in mathematics and mathematics routinely forgets about them. Time, law of nature, matter itself - anything disappears when you don't think about it, as if it's solipsism. But it never happens in physics.
