This is a highly complex situation but I do take some issue with some of the counter points the article raises:
> Families that can afford to, will switch schools in order to ensure that their children are still challenged in the classroom.
Locally funded schools have spawned this issue but from what I've seen families are pretty reluctant to actually pick up and move frequently to keep up with shifting educational programs - they will happily exploit cross-county enrollment if it's available with though.
- nickthegreek 5y agoMy parents moved out of the city and to a rural county with good schools and drove an hour to work and an hour back to provide my brother and I with a chance at a better education and we were lower middle class. If remote work becomes the norm, I can see many more families doing this too.
- MattGaiser 5y agoI took that line to mean private school, not moving to a place with better public schools.
- rajin444 5y agoYep, giving the middle class one less opportunity to play the same game as the rich.
- Ensorceled 5y agoToronto has a dozen highly ranked private schools and few dozen others. Tuition is usually less than $35K CAN a year. Most cities have several private schools. You usually don't need to move you home to move your children to a new school. We would have seriously considered private school for our gifted children if the public school hadn't offered it.
