- mrkramer 5y agoBack in the day they kickstarted and promoted PayPal to Ebay vendors, now they are going to introduce "Buy with PayPal" to 400+ million Pinterest users. Protentional of ecommerce on Pinterest is huge. Pinterest is going head to head with Instagram on ecommerce. But the question is how worth is actually Pinterest. I don't think Pinterest is worth $45 billion[0] but if PayPal can afford it they must do it because it could be one of the most important acquisitions in the PayPal's history. - ldng 5y agoThat would only work if Paypal transform Pinterest into a marketplace which Pinterest could have done earlier if it was that easy. I get the intent but it still feel like a lot of work with no guaranteed ROI.
- rednerrus 5y agoPinterest has a rich, captive market that use Pinterest in making their purchasing decisions. Pinterest should have direct links to buy everything. Paypal could help make this happen. I've always said I would love to have seen Amazon buy Svpply when it was still a thing because it was social shopping.
- ldng 5y agoBut "buy with Paypal" is not the same as "Buy on Amazon", there is a wide gap to make that a reality. Just buying Pinterest itself not enough.
- rednerrus 5y agoIf Pinterest could create a shopify integration that allowed you to create a buy it now pin that you could click and the item would get sent to you, it would be a gold mine. Pinterest has the eyeballs of people who are thinking about making large purchases. I wouldn't be surprised to see Paypal purchase a company like Wayfair or Home Depot next.
