Berkeley scientist resigns over refusal to invite ‘canceled’ geophysicist
- RickJWagner 5y agoThis is reason for rejoicing. David Romps worked at Berkeley -- he obviously was not a right-winger. And yet he resigned over a woke cancellation. I hope this signals the begin of the return of the classic liberal.
- hw-guy 5y agoThe less optimistic possibility is that soon the only people left at elite institutions will be woke leftists, as the classic liberals all resign.

- h2odragon 5y ago> But it was never my intention to lead an organization that is political or even ambiguously so. Consequently, I am stepping down from the directorship sniff, sniff Integrity? In today's academia? How did he last this long?
- chuckee 5y agoMaybe instead of resigning, malicious compliance would be better. Have the Berkeley website and brochures clearly state "Students and faculty are not allowed to express the opinion that merit-based admissions are preferable to current diversity efforts, on- or off- campus." Once there are more cancellations, a list of specific* ideas that are disallowed, prominently featured in all of the university's marketing materials and official communications. Force the censorship out into the open - that is what the censor fears most. *I.e. not how the activists characterized the statements (usually some flavor of "Is opposed to diversity"), but what the cancelled person really said, or an honest summary thereof, ideally with links to exact quotes in full context.
