Japanese arrested for alleged sale of porn videos and pixeled bits altered by AI
- 1cvmask 5y agoHe was breaking the law in Japan it seems so: Under Article 175 of the Criminal Code of Japan people who sell or distribute obscene materials can be punished by fines or imprisonment. Article 175 was included in the original document in 1907 and remains relatively unchanged. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Japan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Japan
- version_five 5y agoI think this really just boils down to him posting copyrighted content, and the de-blurring is incidental, right? It would be very interesting if anything hinged on the de-blurring. The GAN model is essentially imagining what the pictures look like behind the blurring, it's not somehow cheating the information loss, so from a technical perspective, it's really just making a good guess at what someone's parts (or whatever was blurred) look like. It would be interesting to understand how that would be handled legally, though like I say, I don't think the de-blurring is material here.
- literallyaduck 5y agoIf a drug company can slightly change a drug to keep away generics what is wrong with changing a few pixels? That wouldn't help the obscenity charge though.
