That left-aligned trackpad is a no-go for me.
- leephillips 5y agoFirst thing I noticed. Why, for goodness’ sake?
- klardotsh 5y agoThere always has to be something to kneecap any Linux hardware that hits the market, and in any device that otherwise looks decent or better, you can rest assured it'll be some UX aspect (trackpad placement, key travel, coil whine, whatever)
- unstatusthequo 5y agoMaybe to fit the 3080 in?
- cstrahan 5y ago> Why, for goodness’ sake? It's offset to the left on the chassis so that it will be centered between your hands while typing. If the trackpad was centered on the chassis, your right palm would be constantly in contact with about a third of the trackpad, which could result in accidentally moving the cursor. The asymmetry may look ugly to some, but the upside is optimal usability. If the numpad was removed from the design, then we could have the best of both worlds... but then numpad users would be turned off.
- leephillips 5y agoYou’re absolutely right. I didn’t look carefully.
- jiveturkey 5y agoi think you've picked out the feature incorrectly. it has a numeric keypad. the trackpad is centered to the spacebar.
- imbnwa 5y agoNumpad is also a no-go, waste of space for me and unlike a regular, independent keyboard, moving the keyboard to center align with my hands means moving the laptop screen to be off center as well. That's weird and annoying, especially since I tend to work with a terminal on the right side of the screen
- jiveturkey 5y agoAgain, I think you're picking this feature out incorrectly. The numpad is a feature. It's useful for gaming, which is how this laptop is targeted. They are optimizing for a specific use case.
