Does Gap in Curriculum Vitae a Bad Thing for Software Engineer?
Hi, my background is Business Management but I took a Bootcamp Full Stack Java backend, JavaScript front end. Luck was on my side, I got in to a decacorn company, 3 months in and got offered 2 years contract.
I did not sign the contract because my family emphasize on finishing what I have started which is my management degree.
I intend to take another Bootcamp course in September 2022 after I finished my degree, preferably Data Science Bootcamp that focus on Computer Vision.
Will the Bootcamp neutralize the Gap year in my CV?
- jstx1 5y agoSo you did a fullstack bootcamp, worked for 3 months, got an offer and turned it down to finish a management degree that you're still doing and want to do another bootcamp after the degree? I can't spot the gap because it sounds like you've been either styding or working the whole time. But that's besides the point anyway. If you want to be a developer, it seems like you're employable and have a bit of experience so you can look for a job at the end of your degree. Don't do the data science/computer vision bootcamp - it won't help that much and the requirements for education are much higher in data science / ML and it will be difficult to get into the field with just a management degree.
- kidfrom 5y agoYes, I wanted to do another bootcamp after the degree. I wanted to take the Computer Vision Bootcamp because I talked to the CEO of a DOOH Ads company, and that company leverage Computer Vision to count how many car, motorcycle, people that see the ads. And they also have a Vending Machine business unit! I will try to dig deeper where to start again after the end of my degree. Maybe what I need is to learn raspberry or Java ME or python that power those Digital Billboard and Vending Machine.
