I get abuse and threats online – why can't it be stopped?
- 999900000999 5y ago> "They are driving up their bottom line by keeping people's interest in horrible, violent, often misogynistic content," says Colliver. Yes, this is known. >For women of all ages - myself included - that means refusing to be bullied off social media I don't understand this conclusion, I was bullied off social media because I don't feel like getting called slurs over and over again. I don't feel like going on Reddit to talk about housing prices, and then I get nasty DMS saying I'm a horrible sack of crap. These trolls only have power if you give it to them. I think less people should have a social media presence. Everyone's losing here, the trolls are losing too since instead of walking outside and smiling they're spending all day trying to throw their hate around. Victims of trolling are soaking in unholy amounts of hate speech. I had to warn a friend of mine that if she decides to use online dating as a person of color she needs to expect people to call her all types of horrible names. It's very very common to absorb that type of hate. If I went to a bar and every time I ordered a drink someone shouted out that I was a fat ugly piece of crap, I'd stop going to that bar. Facebook is that bar, it's a very big bar, it's very popular, but you don't need to go there. I'll never understand why people expect Facebook to hurt their own profit margins. If it drives up revenue to spread conspiracy theories about how lizard people are behind declining middle class incomes, Facebook is in the business of spreading these theories.
