Grr-loop: (set) [g]oals, [r]ecord (time), [r]eflect
The GRR-loop is a loop of continuous goal setting, time recording and reflection.
It is not an official term, but it is a process I found out to be very helpful to me. Here is how I grew towards it:
I have been traveling, and I have struggled a lot with being productive and finding balance.
There were a lot of "fun" things to do around me, and it was hard to keep focus on the things I must and to what I wanted on the long term.
I started noting everything in my calendar.
Although tracking time/your behaviour is time consuming, I just wanted an overview of my activities.
Not only work-related, but also activities towards relaxation. I had the assumption that if I knew how much time I spend on relaxing, it would be a benefit to me to keep me motivated to work or work towards long-term goals.
The point of consciously spending time interested me.
While I was traveling, I read the book "The lean startup", and I loved to idea of a new idea or hypothesis to test every single week.
So, I started doing this with the activities in my life. Every single week 1 or multiple goals to work towards, and every single week a reflection and planning the next week.
I am now conscious about whether the activity adds value to my life or not.
Sometimes you are just doing something because it has an emotional load.
But the weekly reflection and the habit of setting goals that are realistic changed a lot for me.
