- wishawa 5y agoUp close, turbines generate lots of noise, unnatural air currents, and EM field. Seems like an ideal situation for natural selection.
- tinus_hn 5y agoIf the problem is insects flying against the turbine mast I wonder how many insects are ‘killed’ by a tree every year.
- wishawa 5y agoThey mention insect detritus impacting laminar airflow, so the collisions are at the blades.
- Arnt 5y ago"…40 million insects killed annually by a single wind turbine in Germany…" That's about 13 tons of biomass per blade, three times the weight of the blade itself. Why aren't they covered in black muck?
- aeternum 5y agoHow does this compare with the number of insects killed by cars on the highway? It seems foolish to focus research on wind turbines when cars kill many orders of magnitude more. Why not research how to reduce car-insect-fatalities?
- BearOso 5y agoBecause the fossil fuel industry won’t fund it? Cars are financially beneficial for them. The article says it has no conflicts of interest, but I’m very skeptical.
