Chinese government orders Apple to take down Quran app in China.
- tradertef 5y agoAlso Bible app.
- chuckee 5y agoAnd Apple prevents their users from getting the app elsewhere. They don't get to build a cage, then plead innocence when others abuse the cage.
- zepto 5y agoApple loudly advertises this fact. Users don’t get to plead victimhood when the product works as advertised. It’s not a cage. It’s a hotel that people willingly stay in because the operators keep it clean.
- sterlind 5y agoJails are just hotels you can't check out of. That's why it's called jailbreaking. The Western app store might be a hotel, but the Chinese app store sure looks like a jail.
- zepto 5y agoSure, but by that logic, that’s true of everything in China, no?
- WarOnPrivacy 5y ago> It’s a hotel that people willingly stay in because the operators keep it clean. Clean here meaning free of content that isn't liked by repressive, rights-abusing governments.
- zepto 5y agoClean meaning certain kinds of malware are disallowed. Complying with the law is generally a prerequisite for doing business in as complex a good as iPhones.
