Online restaurants hours often wrong as listing services are scraping each other
- thriftwy 5y agoOverwriting fresh manual input coming from autoritative source with scrape result is sloppy coding which is likely caused by combination of developers who do not have understanding or affection towards their product and its users; and their management who do not care about workings of their product, but only about some numbers or features that they report. Such combination is prevalent in our industry. So the product is essentially not owned by anybody. It just exists.
- perl4ever 5y agoI'm not sure if it's actually a trend, but recently I've been noticing Wikipedia references to what seem to be random undergraduate papers, maybe not even handed in or graded, let alone published. If that sort of thing is acceptable for real, then anyone could go one step further and write anything that superficially looks like a "D" student's paper and use it to support an article. And the last one I saw, the reference said that the referred to part, in turn, referenced Wikipedia. Kind of making the xkcd about "citogenesis" come true.
