WireGuard is hipster crypto. It's for people who think SSH is too user-friendly. It's for people who think every application should ship with a microkernel. It's for people who think that replacing 1000 users' cryptosystems all at the same time is a walk in a park. It's for people who think normal users won't post their private key in a Slack help channel. It's for people who never refresh or revoke a private key. It's for people who think "Enterprise" is a starship, and "Federation" is what the starship belongs to.
- pkulak 5y agoI use it 'cus it's secure and it was easy to set up.
- geofft 5y agoLet me just add - WireGuard is for the crazy ones. It's for misfits. It's for rebels. It's for troublemakers. It's for round pegs in the square holes. It's for people who see things differently. It's for people who aren't fond of rules. It's for people who have no respect for the status quo.
- wmf 5y agoFortunately Tailscale is the non-hipster (but still modern and secure) version of Wireguard.
- throwaway984393 5y agoThere's always a non-hipster something or other if you like proprietary software and have money for commercial use. But if you're paying anyway, there are more widely supported alternatives that already integrate with existing software. So Tailscale is a hipster proprietary paid VPN provider.
