Why Wokeism Will Rule the World
- cable2600 5y agoI studied global business. Wokeism won't rule the world as each country has a different culture, language, laws, people, and history. They will reject it as America trying to shove its culture down their throats. Everyone being woke causes diversity problems. In school we learn to develop logic, reason, critical thinking to develop our own ethics and morals and way of thinking. Diversity has strength where if everyone had the same mindset they wouldn't be able to see problems and issues anymore and the people who could are not being hired because they aren't woke.
- Bostonian 5y agoCowen asks "If not woke, then what? Another question is what are the alternatives to woke. Some people are going to be extremists no matter what." He then writes, absurdly, that the alternative to wokeism is QAnon. Charles Murray recently wrote a book about an alternative to wokeism, "Facing Reality: Two Truths about Race in America". He says we should acknowledge that not all racial disparities are due to racism and that we should prize equal treatment under the law, not equal outcomes.

It's every bad attitude and self-disempowering way of looking at things anybody ever heard of, combined into a comprehensively self-defending mental neutron star. Every useful way of looking at the world will be inverted in order to produce a harmful result. One example out of millions: if the goal is to save the lives of black people, almost any activity would be better than trying to decrease the number of black people killed by police. But that's exactly what BLM focuses on. It's so ineffective that I personally, a single person working alone might be able to save the lives of more black people per year than BLM. > Almost every other country now has its own version of woke Not at all. One of the main reasons I choose to live abroad is that locals simply cannot understand wokeism without mastering English and studying it. Wokeism is so insidiously evil that it's not something most people will ever imagine on their own; they have to see over and over what it does, how it operates, to gradually accept that yes, it really is real and as bad as it looks. Imagine watching the protests at Evergreen State College without being fluent in English. It would just look like angry people, not evil insanity. > What exactly is wokeism a substitute for? If the woke didn’t believe in wokeism, what would they believe in? It has been suggested to me that the human mind has a religion slot in it, and if it's not populated on purpose by oneself or family, it will most likely have something installed there by societal forces or bad actors. The big difference is that old religions, while flawed, have been tested for thousands of years, whereas Cultural Revolution type religions haven't. Installing a CR type religion is a recipe for turmoil (personal, societal, national) I think I probably understand why so many young people threw out religion. I did it myself for decades. But I think the baby was thrown out with the bathwater. I think we're probably about to go through hard times that rekindle our appreciation for religion.
