Show HN: Plant a Tree Every Time You Do Trash Day
https://offshoots.io - A site that automates making a difference for our planet every time you take out the trash. We put an average of 40lbs of CO2 into the air for every pound of trash that gets put into a landfill. It's time to do something about it, and this project aims to do just that. Completely automated, super simple.
- coolgeek 5y agoI don't mean this as an attack. But my first reaction to seeing this is that you provide no information at all that allows me to evaluate the legitimacy of this effort. You need to provide much more info about who you are, exactly what you're going to do, where you're going to do it, etc. > © Untitled. All rights reserved Gonna need to fix that.
- ChassidicHacker 5y agoHey man, nope, no offense taken, thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it! I'll fix up the landing page to explain a bit more how everything works and how its legit. Is there anything specific other than the attribution you mentioned that you would like to see that, as a user, would help you feel its legit?
- coolgeek 5y agoYou're not explaining why people should do this through Offshoots, rather than directly through One Tree Planted. IOW, what's the value proposition that you provide. (I think that you might have explained that in your initial post here. But I want you to make it explicit again here and on the site so that it's clear to you as well as everybody else.) Also, you know you're a good person. Your family and friends know you're a good person. The people coming to your site don't. I see that you added an About Us page. But it's not enough. Full name and pictures could be a big help here. Some kind of vouching communication from One Tree Planted would also be a big help.
- ChassidicHacker 5y agoAwesome. this is really helpful and informative. Thanks for taking the time to write this out! I'm gonna get on that, and reach out to OneTreePlanted as well to discuss this with them. Appreciate it!
- XCSme 5y agoCongrats on the release! I personally don't understand what is the connection between the trash day and planting trees?
- XCSme 5y agoFrom what I understand, it has nothing to do with trash day, it's just: "subscribe for this weekly donation".
- ChassidicHacker 5y agoTrash day is the day that people put their trash out to be taken mostly to a landfill. It's the day we actively contribute to polluting our Earth and filling it with trash. That's why i wanted to build something that would connect that to something more positive for our planet.
