USC to apologize for WWII actions that derailed Japanese American students
- chroem- 5y agoIt will be interesting to see how the US reacts to CCP-backed Confucius Institutes operating on american university campuses, in the event of a conflict over Taiwan.

- vmception 5y agoDepends on the status of the semiconductor factories being built outside of Taiwan. The US only espouses human rights or morality grounds when it needs bodies and financing to engage in a conflict. If it doesn't need that then see what happens when you try to convince any of the other 200 countries to support you.
- chroem- 5y agoYeah, nah dude. The rest of the world sees right through the CCP's expansionist ambitions, which is why they've been conducting joint military drills in the SCS. The real question is whether the CCP thinks it can take on all the countries they've spat on at the same time.
- vmception 5y agoPressed X to doubt.
- 1cvmask 5y agoCurious from others. Is there a reason that Japanese American is not hyphenated in this article but it is in many other places including government documents. What is the convention around this?
- critsysdev 5y agoI think this is a good gesture and don’t want to downplay it. But I’m not clear on the significance of this announcement of a coming apology? Why not just issue an apology now and seek out the families to send a more personal apology to them over the coming months?
- clairity 5y agothe cynic might say they're trying to maximize the pr value, after a string of bad publicity. usc was incidentally part of an fbi indictment against mark ridley-scott, a long-time local politician who was on the city council when he essentially bribed usc to let his son go there in exchange for lucrative contracts for the social work school.
- labster 5y agoLet his son go to USC on a full graduate scholarship and simultaneously give the son a professor salary at the public policy school. They should offer the descendants of the interned the same deal.
- lotsofpulp 5y agoI think it is safe to assume it is. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/los-angeles-city-councilman-indicted-federal-bribery-charges-n1281483 https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/los-angeles-city-counci...
- JasonFruit 5y agoDoes this benefit anyone but USC?
- jikbd 5y agoApologising for something that happened decades ago when those responsible are no longer working and most of them are dead? Well that’s got to be easy.
