New York Real Estate: Rich Kids Use HDFC Tax Breaks Meant for Low-Income People
- Arnt 5y agoI'm not sure whether to feel bad about this. Because I too did that. My wife and I even got twice as much as low-income people were meant to get. I looked at why, and: The law should apply equally to everyone, so "my" tax break is available to everyone (who buys or renovates a house or flat), and the party that was in government only considered the happy case. "What unintended consequences might this have if someone runs it on other input?" is a question they didn't ask. I've seen other cases since (that I didn't look carefully into) that seem similar... A lot of bad tax law may be due to happy-path thinking.
