That may well be fixable, case of what is the resonant frequency of the water protection an tuning this to induce resonance to overload the sensor - may well work. Though inducing resonance in the glass screen may well achieve the results. I'd also be interested in testing this with contact mics as from my experiences - this may not work upon those at all.
