I realize that adding up numbers doesn’t tell you if it’s a prime…I liked counting primes to quell anxiety but i couldn’t after the numbers got large. So I would just add random numbers to manageable digits and stick to simple prime numbers checks.(sorry..I can’t articulate…it was just something I did on the road because I hated driving)
Thanks re: book Vs series Dornick. I am trying to get into it. I just finished episode 3. I have mixed feelings about the series so far. I don’t think I can go back and re read Foundation series. I won’t even know which order to read it in…

In episode 2, there is a bit where Dornick counts primes and utters an even number..corrects herself and realizes that ‘something is wrong’. They make it look like it was pregnant with some kind of meaning. The whole thing was just odd, but it made me wonder if I missed something or if I forgot the book plot.
- Jtsummers 5y agoSomething that's developing (based on how it's played out so far) is that some of the characters, perhaps due to their fundamental math ability or their math ability is derived from it, seem to have strong and accurate intuitions. That even number was, in my interpretation, caused by something connecting in her subconscious (describing what would be a spoiler, so rot-13'd): Zl gubhtug vf gung gur rneyvre jnl gung Enlpur naq Fryqba jrer nethvat ng gur zrny jnf tanjvat ng ure. All that said, the series has diverged rather strongly from the books in some areas, principally characterizations. Some people have been changed substantially. I wouldn't expect any character to match the book version one-to-one.
- jelliclesfarm 5y agoIndeed. That’s disappointing. If it’s not The Foundation series anymore, why call it that?
- linkdd 5y agoAsimov stated himself that the story would need to be changed if a movie/serie adaptation was to be made. This is still the story of the foundation to reduce 30,000 years of chaos to only 1,000. After all, psychohistory was never about individuals. The changes made to some characters do not harm the story IMHO. It is still very enjoyable. The background is still there.
