It blows my mind how far this telescope will be.
- ISS is 400 km from earth.
- Hubble is 500 km from earth.
- The moon is 384_400 km from earth. It took us 3 days to fly there.
- JWST will be 1_500_000 km from earth. It will take 30 days to fly to its final position.
- wereHamster 5y agoOnly ~4 times as far as the moon.
- dr_orpheus 5y agoIf you want to blow your mind more by a few orders of magnitude, Voyager 1 is currently 23,143,000,000 km from Earth. Its taken 44 years to get to that position.
- Someone 5y agoAnd relative to the galactic center (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Center https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Center; actually only a galactic center out of many billions), the solar system is about 320,000,000,000 km from where it was 44 years ago.
