It seems like releasing specs to build your own parts are part of the intended plans from frame.work and I really hope they live up to those expectations. There's a real possibility of effectively an "ATX for laptops" evolving out of this imo. Obviously there's a lot of danger to their own business model if things go that way, as there was for IBM back in the day. I want to believe they are aware of and ok with that though.
