Show HN: mybf.io - platform for software reviews with social network aspect
Hi!
Recently I've launched - mybfio.io - platform for software reviews with social network aspect.
Prehistory
Many great system are already in place that allow people to search and rate software products,
including the site I am publishing this post on. However I have always felt that those
systems are not specifically centered around product/software development lifecycle (releases, real users feedback over a product entire lifetime, so on) and often too broad or not designed specifically
for that type of work, which is ok.
Why?
As an opensource author I would like to have constant real users feedback, not necessarily
tied only to bugs and feature requests. And even if my project is not that big and not
that promoted I still want my voice will be heard among myriads of other projects
and to gain my own community.
Who?
Opensource authors seeking to build community around products they maintain
Users seeking for relevant and well maintained software to fit best theirs needs

PS The mybfio service is still in active development, things might change, but any feedback is

- uncomputation 5y agoI think having the full mybutterflies.io URL is honestly better despite being longer. Most people will get “my boyfriend” from mybf. Just my 2 cents but I like the idea.
- tdeck 5y agoI had the same thought. Like the idea though, AlternativeTo is definititely a bit spotty. I've often wished for something like The Ruby Toolbox for things other than Ruby libraries.
- vort3 5y agoI think alternativeto.net is the database of software that already exists, many people use, and it would be better to focus on developing and promoting it, instead of creating new sites from scratch.
- hirihoto 5y agoDid you even look at mybf.io? alternative to serves an entirely different purpose.
- lesiki 5y agoWhy would this be better? If existence of a competitor stopped everyone from trying anything new, the web would be much more bland. Even at this early stage, there's differentiation from alternativesto in their principles e.g. lack of downvote buttons, different qualification criteria for posting reviews.
- skinnymuch 5y agoThis makes little sense. Almost everything has a site that already exists. Alternativesto is old and has not improved much. I am yearning for a better alternative since iusethis has gone away.

- melezhik 5y agoahhh, you mean HN post ... ))) ... yes you are right, unfortunately HN does not allow to change it now ...
